What are the penalties that can be held against your Indiana professional license?
A professional license defense attorney such as Iosue Law will be able to help with these:
Censure
The Board finds misconduct, and publicly admonishes your conduct.
Letter of Reprimand
The Board finds misconduct, and publicly admonishes your conduct in the form of a letter that will be maintained in Probation: Suspension: Revocation: your professional licensing file.
Probation
The Board finds misconduct, and allows you to continue practicing under certain conditions, such as compliance with an alcohol or drug assistance program, practicing under the supervision of a monitor, completing Continuing Education, or restrictions on your areas of practice. If you violate those conditions, you may be called before the Board to Show Cause why further sanctions should not be imposed against your license.
Suspension
The Board will find misconduct and suspend your license. If your license is suspended, you are not permitted to practice at all. In order to return to practice, you must appear before the Board, and prove that you are again fit to practice.
Revocation
The Board will find misconduct and essentially remove your license for seven years. At the conclusion of that time period, you must apply for an entirely new license, as though you never had a license in the first place.

Orders to Show Cause:
If your Indiana professional license is placed on probation, you are required to practice only under certain conditions. If it is alleged that you have failed to abide by those conditions, or violated your probation, you may be called before the Board for an Order to Show Cause (“OTSC”). At this hearing, the burden is upon you to show cause why further sanctions should not be imposed against your professional license. You have the right to present evidence and question the evidence presented by the State. You have the right to an attorney at this hearing. Having an attorney at such a hearing can again make the difference in the future of your professional or medical license.
Petition to Withdraw Probation:
If your license in placed on probation, your return to obtaining an active “free and clear” license is not automatic. In order to have your license returned to “active” status, you must petition the Board for a hearing, and prove that you have met all the conditions of your probation, and that the deficiency that lead to the misconduct has been remedied such that the misconduct is not likely to recur. At such hearings evidence is presented by both the State and the practitioner. Having an attorney represent you at such a hearing can ensure that appropriate and positive evidence is gathered and presented to the board, and that the impact of any negative evidence is reduced, thereby increasing the likelihood of probation being withdrawn.
Petition to Reinstate License:
If your Indiana professional license is suspended, the reinstatement of your license is not automatic. Like a probationary license, in order to regain your license to practice, you must petition the board to reinstate your license, and, at a hearing, prove that you have met all the conditions of your suspension, and that the deficiency that lead to the misconduct has been remedied such that the misconduct is not likely to recur. At such hearings, evidence is presented by both the State and the practitioner. Generally, licenses are not reinstated from suspension to “free and clear”. Usually, the Boards take gradual measures and reinstate licenses to probationary status. Having a professional licensing defense lawyer represent you at a reinstatement hearing can increase the likelihood of your license being reinstated.
